How to Book Your Appointment
- Go to gob.mx/inm
- Click "Citas para trámites migratorios"
- Select the type of procedure (residency application, renewal, card pickup, etc.)
- Choose "Quintana Roo" → "Playa del Carmen"
- Select available date and time
- Fill in personal details and confirm
- Save your confirmation number (required at the appointment)
Tip: Appointments release around midnight. Check the portal at 12:00–12:30 AM for the best chance of getting slots 2–3 weeks out.
Documents to Bring
For New Residency Application
- Original passport + 2 copies of all pages
- Immigration visa (from the consulate abroad)
- Completed INM application form (FMM)
- 2 passport-sized photos (white background)
- Proof of address (utility bill or lease)
- Payment receipt for immigration fees
For Residency Renewal
- Original passport + copies
- Current residency card (original)
- Proof of economic solvency (bank statements)

INM Fee Schedule 2026
Immigration fees (derechos migratorios) are set annually by the Mexican government and paid at authorized banks before your appointment:
- Temporary residency (1 year): ~$3,800 MXN (~$190 USD)
- Temporary residency (2 years): ~$7,000 MXN (~$350 USD)
- Permanent residency: ~$4,500 MXN (~$225 USD)
- Card replacement: ~$1,200 MXN (~$60 USD)
Common Issues and How to Avoid Them
- Wrong document copies — bring copies of every passport page, not just the photo page
- Photos not compliant — white background only, no glasses, recent
- Missing bank payment — pay the INM fee at BBVA, Santander, or Banamex before arrival
- Late arrival — arrive 15 minutes early; late appointments may be cancelled
After Your Appointment
You'll receive a receipt and a date to return and pick up your residency card (typically 4–6 weeks later). Bring the same receipt and passport to the pickup appointment.
